Tra ottobre e novembre 2021 si svolgerà il seminario/workshop SEGNI SUL VOLTO, ideato da Carla Riccoboni e organizzato da Le Arti Orafe. Riccoboni, storica designer italiana auto-produttrice di gioielli, ci racconta le motivazioni e le finalità di questa iniziativa, che, prendendo in considerazione il tema del viso, vuole aprire un confronto collettivo anche sulle questioni emerse con la pandemia Covid-19 sul piano relazionale, comportamentale e identitario…
“Questo progetto è nato da due esigenze, una molto personale, legata alla mia età. Da tempo pensavo come trasmettere l’esperienza professionale che ho accumulato in tanti anni di lavoro. Trasmetterla, nel senso di metterla a disposizione delle generazioni più giovani, perché gli enormi cambiamenti determinati dallo sviluppo delle tecnologie negli ultimi decenni hanno aperto opportunità infinite, ma anche sradicato ogni certezza, ogni limite e questo vaso di Pandora aperto pone drammatici interrogativi sul futuro. Dunque intendo questo confronto innanzitutto come opportunità per ascoltare e capire ciò che a volte la mia mente fatica ad accettare, per contribuire, se possibile, alla costruzione di un futuro più umano e consapevole. La seconda esigenza, invece, nasce dall’esperienza della pandemia Covid-19, un evento epocale che stiamo vivendo a livello planetario e di cui ancora non sono chiare le conseguenze sul piano culturale e sociale, e meno ancora nell’ambito della mia professione. Mi sono chiesta a questo proposito: come si sta modificando la relazione tra le persone e l’ornamento? Sono cambiati molti gesti e comportamenti quotidiani; è cambiato Il modo di incontrarsi, di salutarsi, di vedersi o di partecipare agli eventi. Si è sviluppato il concetto di distanza: da fisica a sociale e virtuale, accompagnata dal rituale di disinfettarsi le mani o di cliccare uno schermo. Abbiamo condiviso la paura del contagio, con l’isolamento e le mascherine: un oggetto/segno utilizzato contemporaneamente da un enorme numero di persone, che inevitabilmente è diventato simbolo delle nostre personali fragilità e delle fragilità del mondo. Da qui l’idea di prendere in considerazione il volto, una parte del corpo nei secoli oggetto di molte esplorazioni, interpretazioni, interventi; spesso decorato con pitture, tatuaggi e ornamenti; talvolta nascosto sotto maschere rituali, caschi, elmi di ferro, veli di stoffa; talvolta stilizzato, deformato o deturpato fino agli eccessi. Il viso è la parte anatomica più significativa, più straordinaria del corpo: il primo strumento di comunicazione della nostra identità, delle nostre emozioni e sentimenti, il primo inalienabile luogo della nostra esistenza, la casa prima della nostra anima. Progettare dei segni /oggetti per il volto significa dunque indagare, qualcosa di complesso, profondo e misterioso, ritornare alle origini, riscoprire i bisogni più autentici della nostra storia per ritrovare oggi senso e responsabilità al nostro fare. Potrà un oggetto, una forma, aiutarci in questo senso? Le risposte, ovviamente, non sono scontate e per questo motivo il progetto è strutturato in una prima fase di documentazione e analisi, con l’intervento di relatori qualificati nel campo dell’arte e dell’antropologia e con un dibattito allargato, aperto, libero. La seconda fase, invece, riservata ad una decina di iscritti selezionati, sarà un confronto progettuale collettivo tra diverse competenze e generazioni, per arrivare a concretizzare delle proposte, fino a ridefinire, se necessario, anche l’obiettivo finale. Il metodo di lavoro sperimentale proposto, che vorrei definire artigianale/artistico, è basato sull’osservazione, l’intuito e la creatività, per valorizzare in tempo reale gli apporti e gli stimoli che arriveranno via via dai protagonisti che prenderanno parte al progetto. L’ambito “ambiguo” del gioiello contemporaneo, che spazia tra arte, design, moda e costume, consente libertà metodologiche per intrecciare saperi e competenze e concede soluzioni inedite.”

The seminar/workshop SEGNI SUL VOLTO (SIGNS OVER THE FACE) will take place between October and November 2021, imagined by Carla Riccoboni and organised by Le Arti Orafe. Riccoboni, historic Italian designer and self-producer of jewellery, tells us about the motivations and aims of this initiative, which, taking into consideration the theme of the face, aims to open a collective debate also on the issues that have emerged with the Covid-19 pandemic on a relational, behavioural and identity level…
“This project was born from two needs, one very personal, related to my age. For some time I have been thinking about how to pass on the professional experience I have accumulated over many years of work. To pass it on, in the sense of making it available to the new generations, because the enormous changes that have taken place over the last few decades have made it possible for me to make the most of it. The enormous changes brought about by the development of technology in recent decades have opened up infinite opportunities, but they have also uprooted every certainty, every limit, and this open Pandora’s box poses dramatic questions about the future. I therefore see this confrontation first and foremost as an opportunity to listen and understand what my mind sometimes struggles to accept, in order to contribute, if possible, to the construction of a more human and conscious future. The second need, on the other hand, stems from the experience of the Covid-19 pandemic, an epoch-making event that we are experiencing at planetary level and whose consequences are still unclear on a cultural and social level, and even less so in the context of my profession. I asked myself: how is the relationship between people and ornamentation changing? Many daily gestures and behaviours have changed. The way of meeting, greeting, seeing each other or participating in events has changed too. The concept of distance has developed: from physical to social and virtual, accompanied by the ritual of disinfecting one’s hands or clicking a screen. We shared the fear of contagion, with isolation and masks: an object/sign used simultaneously by a huge number of people, which inevitably became a symbol of our personal frailties and the frailties of the world. Hence the idea of considering the face, a part of the body that over the centuries has been the subject of much exploration, interpretation and intervention; often decorated with paintings, tattoos and ornaments; sometimes hidden under ritual masks, helmets, iron helmets, cloth veils; sometimes stylised, deformed or disfigured to the point of excess. The face is the most significant, most extraordinary anatomical part of the body: the first instrument of communication of our identity, our emotions and feelings, the first inalienable place of our existence, the first home of our soul. Designing signs/objects for the face therefore means investigating something complex, profound and mysterious, going back to the origins, rediscovering the most authentic needs of our history in order to rediscover meaning and responsibility in our actions, today. Can an object, a form, help us in this sense? Obviously, the answers are not to be taken for granted, and for this reason the project is structured in a first phase of documentation and analysis, with the participation of qualified speakers in the field of art and anthropology and with a broad, open, free debate. The second phase, on the other hand, will be reserved for a dozen selected participants, and will be a collective project comparison between different skills and generations, to arrive at concrete proposals, and redefine, if necessary, the final objective. The proposed experimental working method, which I would like to define as artisanal/artistic, is based on observation, intuition and creativity, to exploit in real time the contributions and stimuli that will gradually arrive from the protagonists who will take part in the project. The “ambiguous” sphere of contemporary jewellery, which ranges from art to design, fashion and costume, allows methodological freedom to intertwine knowledge and skills, and provides novel solutions.”
